Scotland contains an interesting purple and white roses and varied flora with many areas of the country such as the Highlands, the mountains purple and white roses and moors of Central Scotland, the Islands of the West purple and white roses and the long purple and white roses and varied coastline remaining relatively wild purple and white roses and unspoilt. Numerous nature reserves serve to protect not just the many rare plants but also those which, although once common, are now becoming scarcer. In Canada, it is sometimes worn on December 6, National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women in memory of the École Polytechnique massacre committed by Marc Lépine to denounce violence against women, as an alternate to the white ribbon.

White Rose Varsity Tournament - Taking its name from the 15th Century Wars of the Roses where York were represented by the white rose the White Rose Varsity Tournament is a sports competition between the two York-based universities in the UK; University of York and York St John College. Started in 2005 by AU-president Stuart Leslie of the York University and his counterpart from York St John College, it is hoped to be continued as an annual event.

Language of flowers - ... a Victorian-era means of communication in which various flowers and floral arrangements were used to send coded messages, allowing individuals to express feelings which otherwise could not be spoken. The nuances of the language are now mostly forgotten, but red roses still imply passionate, romantic love; pink roses a lesser affection; white roses still suggest virtue and chastity; and yellow roses still stand for friendship or devotion--these may not be the exact translations of the Victorian sentiments, but flowers still speak to us.
